Oof. STEM girlie here who is in the “toughing it through” stage with her creative endeavors. Oddly enough, this was a lesson I had to learn when I started my degree AND when I got back into writing.
This was a great reminder to focus on your effort in the beginning stages, not so much the final product. Looking forward to reading more from you!
Yup, starting something new is always humbling, no matter what the subject is! I'd rather be a beginner for the rest of my life than getting too comfortable in one area :)
Needed to hear this. I'm picking up painting again after years away and I'm so nervoua I'll hold myself to old standards when I waa more skilled. I appreciate this reminder to be patient. Thank you!
I´m afraid of failure, and i guess that fear stops me to try the things i want to do, if the first attempt its not perfect, then i will never be good enogh, or thats what i used to think, but this days im starting to realize that i dont have to perfect, i just need to start, thanks for this lovely blog <3
P.D: dont worry about the hands ;) also english is not my native language so sorry for any mistake TwT
I know exactly what you mean! It is like I'm afraid to be seen trying, and I don't want others or myself to see that I'm doing something and sucking at it. But as I've realised, there is no bad or wrong way of being creative. It's almost like a spiritual practice, like yoga or meditation, and looking at it like that has helped me a lot. Cause then the goal of a creative session shifts from "the form needs to be perfect" to "I'm just here to do something relaxing for my body and mind". It's definitely a process tho and somedays I really feel like my perfectionism is working against me :D
I'm glad that you are getting to a point where you can just start, regardless of the outcome, that is amazing! Good luck with your creative endeavours :)
as an stem girl reconnecting with her creative self, i find you so inspiring! being in the begginer phase its such a humbling experience, but it allows you to embrace a mindset that sets you free to experience and try anything! its unbelieveble how many things we are depriving ourselfs from just because of fear. your content feels like a safe space to me, i apreciate it
Thank you so much for your comment, your words really made my day a lot better! And you are absolutely right. The fear of not being perfect is holding us back from trying so many things, when it really shouldn't. Still trying to detach myself from the outcome of my creative acts, especially when it comes to painting. Just because my finished product looks "bad", doesn't mean the time I just spent on it was wasted, I can allow myself to feel just as happy and fulfilled with my practice.
It is so great to have like minded people that approach creativity in a similar way! ❤️
